The Donegal Association Dublin are heartbroken at the loss of our 2016 Donegal Person of the Year Stephen Mc Cahill. We would like to send our sympathy to his wife Marietta, children Gemma and Steven, daughter in law Lauren, granddaughter Mary Kate and his wider family circle and his many friends at this very sad time.

Stephen was chosen as the 2016 Donegal Person of the Year for his extensive community work. Through his various roles and many initiatives such as festival committees, involvement and promotion of GAA at local and county level, tourism committees, working with local schools and promoting his native county at every opportunity. He positively promoted Donegal and in particular Ardara, Glenties, Portnoo and Killybegs as an area in which to visit, work and live.

Stephen was a wonderful supporter of our association and loyally attended our many functions and looked forward to attending our upcoming and future events. He returned to our Gala Ball annually with a table of family and friends and we very much looked forward to welcoming him and enjoying his company each year.

A big smile, handshake or hug whenever we met him is how we will fondly remember him. Mr. Ardara as he was so often referred to and a man who has done so much to improve Donegal.

Stephen will be sorely missed by those far and wide whose lives he has touched throughout the many projects, committees and organisations of which he was apart.

Rest in Peace Stephen.
