Cathaoirleach, Sorcha Ní Dhomhnaill congratulated Moya on her achievements to date and highlighted how deserving she was of this award.

Guests were then treated to some fantastic entertainment starting with a video covering Moya’s life. Following that was a superb Riverdance performance that brought all the guests to their feet for a standing ovation. Moya said she was delighted to have so many of her family and special friends in the one room to celebrate this award with her. She said that she never expected to be nominated for Donegal Person of the Year and that she was more than surprised to win such an accolade! Moya said “it is truly special to be honoured by your own people and this is the best award that I have received to date during my career.” She went on to thank her husband and all her family and friends, her hard working staff and colleagues and everyone who had wished her well since her announcement as Donegal Person of the Year.

Next up was a special surprise not only for the guests but for Moya herself organised by her husband John, who had arranged for Brian Kennedy to perform a few of Moya’s favourite songs.

The night was truly enjoyable from start to finish. Many regular guests at the Donegal Association Annual Gala Ball commented that it was one of the best yet and they are already looking forward to next year. The Donegal Association in Dublin are proud to have Moya as their ambassador for the year ahead.
